Yoga has been in and out of my life since a Kundalini Yoga class I took in college. It wasn't until I moved to Portland and dove into an alignment based Astanga Yoga practice with Timo Jimenez that I started to live my practice. I just could stop. I was attending the National College of Naturopathic Medicine at the time, studying an emphasis in Midwifery and Women's health, and I graduated in 2003. As I began to apprentice as a midwife I decided to get training in Pre-natal and Post-Partum yoga. I was fortunate to have found Collette Crawford at her Holistic Prenatal program in Seattle, WA., where she taught me the nuts and bolt of these special gifts of yoga to women, but also about the importance of empowering mothers. Anyone can teach poses, but as it is with any yoga class, it is what happens inside that matters most. I began to teach Pre-natal and Post-partum yoga classes in 2001, building an amazing community of Mamas at the SE Yoga Shala, and have been fortunate to remain involved in the Portland birth community. As for my own study and practice, I have taken classes throughout Portland over the years but my heart (and my love of how the body works) always brings me back to Lisa Mae Osborn and the community that is The Bhakti Yoga Movement Center. I finished the 200hr teacher training at The Bhakti Yoga Movement Center in 2012 and finished the 500 Hour Program here. I am so excited to be joining all the amazing teachers at The Bhakti Yoge Movement Center, to share what I love with the community I love. Lisa Mae adds: "I have been a huge fan of Shana since we first met and bonded over 10 years ago, and for years have yearned to offer her a forum to share her love, passion, and skills with The Bhakti Yoga Movement Center Community. At long last, the stars have aligned and we get to offer the community this jewel of a teacher and person, and we are all simply delighted! She is skilled and tender, compassionate and capable, both as a prenatal teacher and a hatha yoga teacher. We are also grateful she's here allowing her to share her unique way of bringing deep detail and attention to the birthing community through yoga. I am so grateful we have her here."
